  4. Synthesis Claim Statements:
    • Write your own claim statements (new understanding about teaching empathy in the classroom)
    • This will be your guiding thesis throughout your essay!!
  5. Texts for Essay:
    • Identify the 4 (or 3,2) texts you will use in your essay to compare to each other (synthesis) and support your new understanding of the issue (claim)
  6. Outline:
    • Begin an outline of the order in which you will summarize and discuss the texts
